Mary is an organic farmer, employing sustainable animal husbandry
It's fleece was white as snow,
Which clashes with Mary's progressive racial ideals, but hey, black lambs are quite rare
Everywhere that Mary went,
In her Farmyard Edition Prius
The lamb was sure to go.
Because if she needs to go somewhere, who is to say the lamb doesn't want to go too?
It followed her to school one day,
A small liberal-arts college in Vermont
Which was against the rules,
Thereby giving rise to a student sit-in for Lamb Rights
It made the children laugh and play,
Especially the campus Republicans
To see that lamb at school.
Knowing the only way the woolly thing was there was because of Affirmative Livestock Action Quotas
And so the teacher turned it out,
For consistently bleating "fascist" in class
But still it lingered near,
Not surprising considering the nice juicy grass in the quadrangle
And waited patiently about,
Loafing until Spring Break, like all freshmen
'Til Mary did appear.
From a meeting of her Feminist Collective
"Why does the lamb love Mary so?"
Obviously, because Mary is a vegan
The eager children cry,
Inquiring minds, those kids
"Why, Mary loves the lamb, you know"
To show us all how evolved she is
The teacher did reply.
He was a Prius-driving, lacto-ovo vegetarian, progressive, affirmative action-believing liberal too.
Mary graduated top of her year, and all I want is a roast lamb dinner.
Technorati: Lamb, Roast Dinner, Mint Sauce, Red Wine.

but i'm with you...love roast lamb...stuffed with rosemary and garlic slices...
*sighing*
I'm doing a roast lamb this weekend with the LLs...baked Spuds and Pumpkin, corn and the usual vegies...plus plenty of gravy Mmmmmm
Yeah but how MUCH did Mary love that Lamb? Was she originally from NZ or Wales?
It's easy to overdo the vinegar. One must be careful. Lamb, not wasabi.
There goes lamb chops for supper tonight.
Are you going to write about a friendly fish or something in the next few hours?
Why, yes indeedy Savannah, lamb and garlic go together like grits and breakfast.
Yum. Oh.
Those LL's will be very pleased with their chef dad, Scorps. Any chance of FedExing me a plate?
Now that, dear VI, is a very good question. In Vermont, anything is possible. Perhaps they had a common law marriage. Lanolin on the sheets would be annoying though.
Quite so, Reno. Lamb is robust and delicate simultaneously. Like a woman, really. You folks there on the sub-continent have a sensitive hand with lamb.
Now I'm drooling thinking about it.
By now you should have had your dinner, Lisa. I hope I didn't spoil it for you! (Now you've challenged me I might have to write about fish. Not the easiest of topics, you'll agree.)
Best recipe for that, ever, is in Anthony Bourdain's Les Halles cookbook. It is so incredibly succulent and literally melts in your mouth. I'm talking about lamb here, of course.
Somehow mint sauce and tofu really don't go together.
Bring on the lamb. I'd rather have it than dinner with Tom Cruise, any day.
Got Anthony Bourdain on the mind Trouble?
I'm going to stop there, because everything else I have to say is blue.
Happy lamb roast to you.
On the mint sauce and tofu, I agree, Elizabeth.
Dinner with Tom Cruise has many dangers, not least of which would be that you wouldn't see his head. Put him in a high chair and he could join in the conversation.
Then he'd just convert you to Scientology.
You're right. Regular lamb roast sans Tom is best.
A meal I have yet to try.
I only had a bite of lamb for the first time , in a pasty, 2 years ago.
Pasty! These are quite popular in my home town.
Now I'm thinking of roast lamb and pasties.
The pasty was rather nice as it was warm and the day was cold.
I'd try lamb again because of it.
ROFL
It's hilarious, but just doesn't sing as well I fear...
If you like animals, you'll love lamb.
Sorry, Girl, I couldn't resist.
TC, you're right, I lost the poetry of the original.
Thank you for laughing, I'm not sure if anyone else did.
